SAWN MARK FINISH ENGINEERED HARDWOOD FLOORING
One of the more beautiful finishing techniques becoming increasingly more popular are the saw marked engineered hardwoods. Also known as Sawn Mark, this process like hand scraping, wire brushing, chiseling or sculpting is a distressing technique used to add texture and character to the wood surface.

As the name implies it is done either with a band or similar saw. To achieve the look the saw is lowered on to the wood planks with varying and irregular placement and parallel with the grain, resulting in a slight distressed look that creates light highlights and shadows to provide a beautiful contrast to the natural grain. Sawn Mark hardwood floors have a subtle warm texture that give a natural look and slightly worn feel.

Unlike a topical stain, a reactive process penetrates the top veneer of our engineered wood planks.

Water-Based Polyurethane
Pros: Easy application and cleanup; low odor and low VOCs; very smooth and shiny finish; no yellowing
Cons: High-gloss water-based polyurethane magnifies every scratch and scrape

European oak is the preferred species for fuming/smoking because of its high tannin content which brings out an intense darker color.

Reactive treatment interaction with the natural tannins and sugars in the wood also creates an "aged"look by replicateing the oxidization and maturing process of natural aged wood .
WOCA hard wax oil: This particular oil is more expensive, but provides a more effective result. WOCA oil is more commonly used by professionals, who have the necessary machines to apply the oil correctly.

Whereas traditional stains add their color by painting the surface of the wood, reactive stains work by reacting with the natural components within the wood. Reactive stains are completely void of pigment and create color from inside the wood by interacting with the wood’s natural ingredients to create unique,  that cannot be duplicated with traditional staining methods.
